When Is Nurses’ Week?
Nurses’ week takes place between Monday May 6th – Sunday May 12th, 2024.
On May 12, 1820, the strong-willed and ambitious Florence Nightingale was born in Florence, Italy.
As Nightingale grew older, she became more passionate about helping others. When she was 16 years old, contrary to what her parents wanted for her future, Nightingale pursued a career in nursing, which changed the future of healthcare.
In the 19th century, Nightingale’s scientific knowledge and idealism enabled her health reforms to succeed as never before.
On August 15, 1910, two days after Florence Nightingale’s death, the New York Times stated, “Few lives have been more useful and inspiring than hers.”
